World Cancer Day 2023

World Cancer Day is observed on February 4th every year to raise awareness about the disease and to encourage individuals and organizations to take action to prevent, treat and control it. The day aims to unite the global community in the fight against cancer and to show support to those affected by the disease.

Cancer is a leading cause of death worldwide, with approximately 10 million deaths every year. The disease is caused by the uncontrolled growth of cells in the body, which can invade surrounding tissues and spread to other parts of the body. There are over 100 different types of cancer, each with its own specific symptoms and treatments.

On World Cancer Day, individuals and organizations are encouraged to participate in activities and events to raise awareness about the disease. Social media is a powerful tool for spreading the message about World Cancer Day and its goals.

Statistics

According to the global statistics, the estimated blended rate of the cancer incidence and mortality for both males and females in all age groups are:

The estimated number of incidence cases in cancer, The estimated number of death cases in cancer

In 2020, the highest cancer incidence was registered in Eastern and South-Central Asia and in North America. The highest mortality was estimated in Eastern Asia and in North America.

In 2023 in the US it is estimated that there will be around two million new cancer cases diagnosed, and 600 000 cancer deaths will ensue.

Battle with Cancer

Prevention is key in the fight against cancer. Simple steps such as maintaining a healthy diet, getting regular exercise, avoiding tobacco and excessive alcohol consumption, and protecting skin from the sun can help reduce the risk of developing certain types of cancer. Regular health screenings and early detection are also important in treating cancer and improving patient outcomes.

In addition to individual efforts, governments and organizations also play a crucial role in the fight against cancer. This can include providing funding for cancer research and education, supporting cancer patients and their families, and advocating for policies that promote cancer prevention and treatment.

Cancer Treatment

While the fight against cancer is ongoing, significant progress has been made in recent years. New treatments and therapies are being developed, and survival rates for many types of cancer are improving.

In 2022, there were some important developments in cancer research. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued 40 drug approvals for oncology indications, 12 of which were for new molecules.

Clinical Trials in Cancer

The global pharmaceutical industry is constantly conducting new clinical trials aimed to produce better drugs for patients with cancer.

There are currently 30,363 ongoing clinical trials that deal with cancer:
